Stuart J (Project Leader) with co-investigators Naydene De Lange, Relebohile Moletsane, Thabisile Buthelezi, Rob Pattman and Claudia Mitchell.

The aim of this project is to trial innovative participatory and arts-based methodologies with pre-service teachers so that they acquire the skills to tackle HIV-related challenges. The project takes place in schools with learners and in-service teachers. One of the outcomes is the development of a media toolkit for pre-service teachers to take into schools for further work with in-service teachers. Project objectives include: (1) exploring how arts-based methodologies can be used with young people in rural schools; (2) studying the ways that the university can effectively set up a partnership to work with a cohort of young people who are emerging teachers together with a cohort of practicing rural teachers and principals and community health workers. The purpose being to contribute to the support of learner-centred arts based approaches to addressing HIV and AIDS.
